Elephants use air-transmitted sound to communicate with one another but also rely on ground vibrations to cover even larger distances. A new study focusing on elephants’ middle ear structure showed that their ears are more sensitive to low-frequency vibrations transmitted through bone than human ears.

Four suspects were arrested in Kakuma, Turkana West Sub-County on Tuesday after they were found in possession of elephant tusks they allegedly intended to traffic. In a joint operation conducted at around 10:00 AM, Kenya Wildlife Service officers working alongside the Directorate of Criminal Investigations apprehended Albert Elia Eroo, 36, Akateso Enock, 45, Losuru Ekadeli Ekutan, 30, and Havyarima Claudia, 46.
