LEWA, Kenya -- As nations mark World Wildlife Day, conservationists in Kenya are warning of shrinking wildlife spaces in the east African country that generates substantial revenue from wildlife tourism. While conservation efforts over the past two decades have led to the recovery of many threatened species, the animals are losing wide swaths of habitat because of threats stemming from climate change and destructive human behavior, activists warn.

This World Wildlife Day, we go behind-the-scenes to get a glimpse into the incredible work of Dr. Sharon Mulindi and her team at the Kenya Wildlife Service Northern Kenya Wildlife Vet Unit. Supported by Save the Elephants, Ewaso Lions, and Grevy's Zebra Trust, the vet unit provides critical emergency care to wildlife - treating injuries, collaring animals for conservation research, and carrying out life-saving missions. Through their work, northern Kenyaβs wildlife and ecosystems thrive.

This World Wildlife Day, we are excited to announce that a recent wildlife survey (June 2023 - April 2024) in Boumba Bek & Nki National Parks, South East Cameroon, shows that forest elephant and great ape populations have stayed stable since 2016! ππ¦
π 1,004 elephants and 19,472 great apes (gorillas & chimpanzees) were recorded across over 1 million hectares of forest.
